Brent Brown Toyota to Unveil First Student-Designed Car for UVU

Brent Brown Toyota Scion and UVU Athletics will unveil a student-designed Wolverine-themed Scion iQ at the BYU-UVU Men’s Baseball Game at the Brent Brown Ballpark, May 1.

The themed car is a product of the “Wolverine iQ Scholarship Competition,” a first-of-its-kind design contest among UVU students to design a school-themed car wrap for a 2012 Scion iQ. Students competed for a $1,000 textbook scholarship, and the chance for their design to be displayed at UVU events, Brent Brown Toyota, and around the valley.

Brent Brown, owner of Brent Brown Toyota Scion, will present the winning car alongside Kevin Bryan, a 27-year-old graphic design major from Provo, who designed the winning wrap.

Bryan dubbed his design the “The iQ Taxi.”

“UVU is in the business of driving students’ IQ’s,” Bryan said in his acceptance speech at Brent Brown Toyota. “Like a taxi, this gives UVU a chance to show that they take people’s IQ’s further.”

Bryan said he will use the $1,000 scholarship for costly software needed for his graphic design classes. He typically spends $1,500 a semester just on software upgrades, books and fees. He is married with a 4-year-old son.

Brent Brown Toyota and UVU Athletics launched the competition at the last home Men’s Basketball game on February 25. The public voted on the finalists, and the winner was announced April 12 at the dealership.

“The competition has been a great spirit-boost for the athletics program and UVU as a whole,” said Micah Howard, Director of Corporate Partnerships for UVU Athletics. “We were excited to get the students involved, and look forward to using the ‘iQ Taxi’ at many events in the coming year. Brent Brown Toyota Scion went out of the box with this concept and came away with a superbly executed event. We can’t wait to unveil the iQ Taxi next week at Brent Brown Ballpark when we host BYU.”

The iQ Taxi will be housed at the dealership, and available for any UVU events in the next year. The public may photograph the car around the valley for a chance to win prizes on the Brent Brown Toyota Facebook page.

Brent Brown Toyota Scion has been an active supporter of Utah Valley University as part of its broader efforts to improve childhood education. In 2007, Brent Brown made a 10-year $1 million donation to then-UVSC in exchange for naming rights to the ballpark.

Public Allowed to Vote on Next UVU-Themed Car

Designer of Winning Design to Earn $1,000 Textbook Scholarship

Orem, Utah, April 2, 2012 – Voting opened today for the Wolverine iQ Scholarship Competition co-sponsored by Brent Brown Toyota Scion and Utah Valley University (UVU) Athletics. The public can vote on car wrap finalists once per day through Sunday, April 8 on the Brent Brown Toyota Facebook page: Facebook.com/BrentBrownToyota.

Brent Brown Toyota Scion will apply the design with the most votes to a 2012 Scion iQ for UVU Athletics’ use. They will also award the winning designer a $1,000 textbook scholarship.

The winner will be announced at a special ceremony held at Brent Brown Toyota Scion. The University-themed Scion iQ will be unveiled on May 1 when UVU Men’s Baseball faces BYU at the Brent Brown Ballpark.

UVEF Presents for April: UVU Entrepreneurial Superstars

Join the Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum for an April luncheon featuring an insider’s look into the burgeoning entrepreneur community at the UVU Business Resource Center with special guest student entrepreneurs from Kisstixx and The PowerPot.

UVEF Top 25 Under 5 Winners Add 800 Jobs to State’s Nation Leading Economy

OREM, Utah — The Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum (UVEF) announced winners of its 2011 “Top 25 Under Five” Award, spotlighting outstanding Utah entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Award ceremonies were held at Utah Valley University with Adobe, Silicon Slopes and InnoVentures sponsoring the event. UVEF recognized OrangeSoda, an online marketing company with a unique blend of intelligent service and simple technology, as the number one performer among nominees. Today’s winners collectively created 800 jobs and $189 million in 2010 revenue.

“The national Chamber of Commerce recently joined the list of those recognizing Utah as a top five spot to grow an entrepreneurial startup,” said UVEF 2011 chairman Cary Snowden. “Today’s UVEF winners demonstrate that Utah’s business climate is geared to launch world leaders in diverse industries from internet marketing to medical technology to cleantech. This bodes well for our state’s great economy.”

Serial entrepreneur and mentor John Pestana emceed today’s event. Pestana is most noted for co-founding Omniture, which sold to Adobe for $1.8 billion. However, his tireless efforts support budding entrepreneurs through Utah schools as well as organizations such at BoomStartup and Utah Student 25.

“Utah is prime real estate for growing scalable new business ventures,” Pestana said. “I’m so pleased to associate with these entrepreneurs who take great personal risk in their quest for the American dream.”
