-“If you’re spending more than 4 percent of your revenue on IT, we can help,”

Fishbowl CEO David K. Williams says-

The leading provider of inventory control software, Fishbowl® (www.fishbowlinventory.com), is taking major steps to help small businesses thrive: Fishbowl initiatives in 2011 and 2012 are helping SMBs throughout the U.S. not only to survive the recession, but to find the ways to run their businesses more efficiently and profitably than ever before.

Solutions including the company’s trademark Fishbowl Inventory 2012 software, the #1 most requested inventory solution for use with QuickBooks; options for outsourced IT; and integrated business software solutions through the Fishbowl Partner Nation (FPN) are among the answers Fishbowl is providing for its fast-growing base of small business customers during 2012.

“The byword for profitable business right now is ‘lean and clean’,” said David K. Williams, Fishbowl CEO. “We are showing companies how to obtain maximum efficiency and value from their business software solutions, and that it doesn’t require high expenditures or additional IT staffing to accomplish the strategic goals they need to achieve.”

“We are putting full control of a company’s strategy decisions back into the management’s hands,” President Mary Michelle Scott added. “Too many small and growing businesses have been held hostage for far too long by the restrictions of overly cumbersome, expensive and restrictive IT.”

“We’re helping businesses turn the corner to solutions that provide immediate access to what the decision makers need, when they need it—without the constraints of unnecessary and overly heavy IT.”

For example, Fishbowl recently made the decision to outsource its own IT within a newly-created initiative called Fish-IT™. Although highly profitable and efficient, Fishbowl realized that even at its advancing size, the company could become more “lean and clean” by streamlining and outsourcing its internal IT.

For businesses in the larger end of the SMB spectrum, or who are downsizing IT-heavy business software solutions, Fishbowl offers Fishbowl Enterprise (FBE), to provide these firms with a light and also robust and feature-rich alternative to the financial and resource tracking solutions that would otherwise need to be handled by traditional ERP/MRP.

About Fishbowl

Fishbowl and its cornerstone product, Fishbowl Inventory, make it possible for every business to have the level of flexible and mobile inventory management solutions large organizations enjoy. Fishbowl Enterprise is a lean ERP (Enterprise Resource Management) solution with a robust feature set that allows Fishbowl to provide organizations ranging from SMBs to mid-to-large enterprises with all the components required to meet their inventory and business management needs.

New Management, Facilities, Markets, and Humanitarian Outreach Continue Momentum For 2012

Aribex, Inc., worldwide leader in handheld x-ray technologies and manufacturer of the NOMAD® Pro handheld x-ray system, today announced 2011 achievements, as well as its plans for continued corporate and market expansion in 2012.

“We feel fortunate that Aribex has been a recession-proof business with double-digit annual revenue growth almost since inception,” said Ken Kaufman, President and Chief Financial Officer of Aribex. “In 2011, revenue grew in excess of 30 percent and the company became debt-free.”

The Aribex Board of Directors appointed Kaufman to his current leadership role as well as a position on the Board in September of 2011. He partners with D. Clark Turner, PhD, Chairman and CEO, to continue the development and growth of Aribex.

Turner, founder of Aribex, was awarded the Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology in January of last year. The award recognized Turner’s development of the company’s flagship product, the Aribex NOMAD handheld x-ray system. Last year, the internationally-known Edison Best New Product Awards™ also honored Aribex with the Silver Award for the company’s NOMAD device.

Even in a challenged economy, Kaufman attributes strong growth to the company’s innovative quality products and the Aribex team that has worked so hard to make it all happen. With an emphasis on improving safety, access to care, and the patient/clinician experience, many regulators have realized that the time for handheld x-ray has arrived. Aribex is leading the charge with superior design, engineering and manufacturing.

“As they should be, radiological devices are subject to significant regulation and concern for safety,” said Kaufman. “Safety is our number one priority, and we’re proud that more than 30 independent studies and evaluations have validated our position by attesting to the safety and efficacy of our products. While these evaluations have made it possible for us to gain additional regulatory approvals worldwide, we call on reluctant regulators to consider the overwhelming evidence that our handheld x-ray is safe.”

Unlike the bulky wall-mount and portable systems in use, the NOMAD x-ray system is lightweight, rechargeable, and can go anywhere. In October of last year, the company shipped its 8,000th NOMAD device. Aribex looks forward to celebrating its 10,000th unit in service in 2012 along with the launch of several new initiatives.

“We’ll add new accessories to our current products while we continue to make steady progress on new technologies for future products,” said Kaufman. “We’re in the process of expanding our office space, and we’ve also begun the early planning stages of a new building in Utah County that will integrate technology and functionality to strengthen our systems and operations, enhance our capabilities, and facilitate our growth.”

“Aribex was built on innovation, courage, hard work and humanitarian service,” said Kaufman. “These founding ideals will power our growth in existing markets and expansion into new international markets in 2012.”

About Aribex

Aribex is the worldwide leader in portable and handheld x-ray products. Aribex NOMAD x-ray systems are now in use in clinical, remote and mobile facilities throughout the world, from the finest professional offices to humanitarian missions reaching underserved populations who desperately seek care. The NOMAD significantly decreases costs and provides hundreds of safe, high-quality images for dental and veterinary applications on a single battery charge.
Water drill improves dental precision, patient experience

Aribex, Inc., the worldwide leader in handheld x-ray technologies and manufacturer of the NOMAD® Pro Handheld X-ray System, today announced it has made an investment in H2O TECH, Inc. This is the first time Aribex has invested in an outside company. Details of the transaction were not disclosed; however, Aribex officials have confirmed Aribex will have a seat on H2O TECH’s board of directors.

“This is a great milestone for Aribex,” said Dr. D. Clark Turner, Chairman and CEO of Aribex. “We were a start-up company not long ago. We have always had an interest in helping others navigate the process of bringing new, disruptive products to market.”

Aribex and H2O TECH officials are optimistic about the synergistic relationship between the companies. “With patented technology and solid prototyping progress, H2O TECH’s product, Waterjet, is a first-of-its-kind water drilling system with many general dentistry applications,” added Ken Kaufman, President and CFO of Aribex.

As the handheld x-ray leader advances into multiple technological ventures in 2012, Aribex leaders are looking forward to beginning the year as a resource to the H2O TECH team.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to work with Aribex, a well-respected and innovative force in the dental industry,” said Tim Nelson, CEO of H2O TECH. “In addition to lending credibility to future fundraising efforts, we will be able to lean on the experience of Aribex in the areas of engineering, regulatory, sales, marketing, manufacturing and more.”

About H2O TECH

H2O TECH is an emerging company based in Spanish Fork, Utah. Their technology, also known as the Waterjet, consists of a pain-free, remarkably quiet water drill, a breakthrough in dental care that fills the need for a minimally invasive, low-cost procedure. Waterjet increases dental office production by reducing the use of anesthetics and substantially improving the patient’s outcome and experience. It is the most precise cutting device in the dental industry and will give dentists a new point of differentiation.

About Aribex

Aribex is the worldwide leader in portable and handheld x-ray products for use in clinical, remote and mobile care. The Aribex NOMAD battery-powered handheld device increases x-ray safety by dramatically decreasing the amount x-ray exposure required for correct use. It significantly decreases costs and provides hundreds of safe, high-quality images for dental, veterinary, medical, industrial and security applications, on a single battery charge.

- Investors Alan E. Hall, Dr. David Norton and Blake Modersitzki Advise Entrepreneurs To Find The Right Investors and Secure “Good Money” -

Not all money is created equal and the key to successfully raising money is finding patient investors, listening to customers and building a strong team.

These are the key messages entrepreneur catalyst and investor Alan E. Hall, Dr. David Norton and Blake Modersitzki told more than 200 attendees at a recent SLC Entrepreneur Circle Meetup.

“You need to be careful about where you get your money and look for ‘good money’ that can add value to your business,” said Dr. Norton. “The key is finding an investor that will be patient and the way you do this is by conducting your own due diligence and looking into the source of money as diligently as investors look into your business before investing in you.”

Once the right investors have been identified, entrepreneurs need to demonstrate a knowledge of and understanding of their industry, how big the opportunity is, the current market and potential customers.

“An entrepreneur needs to know all about their business and industry, including who will buy the product,” said Hall. “I mentor a number of entrepreneurs and I always tell them to work backwards; listen to and understand the customer first and then build a product that you know they’ll buy and that will meet their needs.”

In addition to understanding the market, investors focus on the individual entrepreneur and their teams.

“Seventy percent of the decision making process is based on the people involved in the business,” stated Modersitzki. “Does the company have a strong technical person, a good business person as well as a strong team around them? If a business has these components they are more likely to succeed and overcome the challenges that every business will face and, in turn, are more likely to receive funding.”

The SLC Entrepreneur Circle is free for entrepreneurs and provides resources, education, opportunities and connections. Richard Swart, director of strategic programs for Grow America Ventures and former business professor at Utah State University, founded the group in 2011. Membership and participation in the group is growing dramatically:

To date there are currently 707 members. Membership increases on a daily basis.

In the past three months 362 entrepreneurs have joined the group, including 114 in the first two weeks of January 2012.

Swart has aggressive growth and sponsorship goals for the SLC Entrepreneur Circle and is involved in several strong entrepreneurial initiatives with Alan Hall and Dr. David Norton in 2012.

Richard R. Nelson, founder and CEO of the Utah Technology Council (UTC) (http://www.utahtech.org), has received a 2011 Governor’s Science and Technology Medal in the Special Recognition category.

The Governor’s Medal award program was initiated in 1987 and recognizes individuals who have made career achievements and/or provided distinguished service that has benefited Utah and the country in science and technology.

“Rich has accomplished some incredible feats for Utah’s technology industries through the UTC and its aggressive, hands-on initiatives,” said Alan E. Hall, chairman of the UTC Board of Trustees. “The inroads he has made in helping Utah’s burgeoning technology industry are remarkable. Credit is truly being given where it is due.”

The Utah Technology Council is the premier trade association for Utah’s 6,000 plus high-tech, life science and clean-tech companies. Under Nelson’s leadership the UTC’s industry-driven agenda has created the $300 million Utah Fund of Funds, helped pass the Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) initiative and the Engineering Initiative, raised the requirements in high school for science and has grown the UTC at 16 percent each year for the past nine years.

“Utah’s life science, high tech and clean tech companies deserve the lion’s share of the credit here,” said Richard R. Nelson, founder and CEO of the UTC. “Without their viable products and services, we would not be able to make the kinds of inroads we’ve made and effectively advance the innovation agenda in Utah. Technology companies are truly the backbone of our state’s economy. It is an honor to be recognized.”

Aribex, Inc., the worldwide leader in handheld x-ray technologies, has qualified for up to $350,000 in financial incentives from the state of Utah for expansion of their manufacturing capacity.

Aribex will receive the incentive in the form of tax credits that are contingent upon the company hiring 30 more employees in the next three years. The incentives were authorized under the new Technology and Life Sciences Economic Development Act passed by the Utah Legislature in 2011, and administered by the Board of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

“We’re honored that our home state recognizes the work that we are doing and the benefits our products bring to the health community, both domestically and internationally,” said Dr. D. Clark Turner, President and CEO of Aribex. “It also acknowledges the fact that we have the innovation, the resources, and the talent to take full advantage of the opportunities and growth ahead of us.

“Utah’s new medical device incentive is evidence of the impact that a smaller x-ray device from Aribex can have, and how a top-innovation state like Utah can help such companies grow and thrive,” said Richard Nelson, founder and CEO of the Utah Technology Council, an association representing the interests of the state’s 6,000 growing life science, IT and clean tech companies. “We’re proud of the success that the Aribex breakthrough products are having in both the dental industry and in patient care around the world.”

Aribex manufactures the NOMAD® Handheld X-ray System, which fills the need for a truly portable, lightweight dental x-ray device. Thousands of Aribex NOMAD handheld devices are now in use in the finest professional dental offices as well as providing access to care for hundreds of thousands of underserved people around the world. Unlike the bulky wall-mount systems traditionally used, the Aribex NOMAD is rechargeable and can go anywhere.

About Aribex

Aribex is the worldwide leader in portable and handheld x-ray products for use in clinical, remote and mobile care. The Aribex NOMAD battery-powered handheld device increases x-ray safety by dramatically decreasing the amount x-ray exposure required for correct use. It dramatically decreases costs and provides hundreds of safe, high-quality images for dental, veterinary, medical, industrial, and security applications, on a single battery charge.

Attendance is filling fast at next week’s Jan. 11 SLC Entrepreneur Circle Meetup event on how to succeed in getting funding in 2012. Zions Bank, on One South Main St. in Salt Lake, will host the 5:30 p.m. event.

Renowned entrepreneurs Alan E. Hall, angel investor and Dr. David Norton, investment manager for the investment fund Island Park, will join representatives from the regional VC and Angel investors community to share their personal tips, tricks and wisdom on the ways entrepreneurs can successfully find new funding in 2012.

The SLC Entrepreneur Circle is a free resource for entrepreneurs primarily within the Salt Lake area, but is also attracting members from Logan to Utah County. The group was founded in early 2011 by Richard Swart, an entrepreneur and former business professor at USU. At 569 members and growing by approximately 100 new members per month, the group has quickly established itself as the fastest growing meetup for business in the entire U.S.

The group meets monthly to network and to get timely information from expert speakers to motivate, educate and inspire local entrepreneurs. Speakers share their expertise freely, but are not allowed to sell or promote products or programs at the events.

“A unique aspect of the SLC Entrepreneur Circle is that it is primarily composed of entrepreneurs who are new to Utah,” Swart noted. “More than 80% of the group are non-natives, making this one of the most diverse and dynamic business resource groups in Salt Lake.”

In addition to his role in the continued advancement of the SLC Entrepreneur Circle, Swart has recently joined Alan Hall and Dr. David Norton in their newest enterprise to launch initiatives to build and grow the US economy through entrepreneurship, and is pioneering programs to support the creation of a vast number of new companies and jobs

For more information on sponsorship opportunities for the Jan. 11 event, contact Richard Swart at Richard@doobizz.com or to register for the event, go to http://www.meetup.com/SLC-Entrepreneurs/events/40460732/.

- Acquisition also includes rights to the Angel Investor of the Year Banquet, Startup of the Year and Mentor of the Year Awards –

Grow Utah Ventures (www.growutahventures.com) is significantly expanding its services to entrepreneurs by taking over the leadership and hosting of the popular CrowdPitch and SpeedPitch events that have been previously conducted by Lendio (formerly known as Funding Universe).

Nearly six years ago, Grow Utah Ventures along with Funding Universe organized the first SpeedPitch event ever held in Utah. That event gave leading entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their business to an exclusive room full of angel investors. Since that time, the events have blossomed into a standing forum where entrepreneurs of promise are given a close inspection by supportive angel investors.

“These events are always a lot of fun and provide a great opportunity for entrepreneurs and small business owners to get a quick reality check on their readiness and options for starting a business and getting funding,” said Brock Blake, CEO of Lendio. “The time came for us to hand off ownership and management of these events to someone else. It was a natural fit for us to turn to our original partner, Grow Utah Ventures to carry this on. We’re confident that the Grow Utah Ventures team will do a fantastic job in bringing these events to entrepreneurs throughout the state of Utah.”

“The CrowdPitch and SpeedPitch events provide a tremendous value to entrepreneurs and others who have a business idea,” said T. Craig Bott, president and CEO of Grow Utah Ventures. “We look forward to continuing the legacy of the CrowdPitch and SpeedPitch events and in helping would-be entrepreneurs get the input, expertise and mentoring they need to start and grow businesses,” added Bott. “These events will compliment our other initiatives, such as our Concept to Company Contests, all of which are designed to promote business and job creation.”

Grow Utah Ventures will also host the Angel Investor of the Year Banquet, as well as the Startup of the Year and Mentor of the Year awards.

CrowdPitch events bring business owners together to present their business idea in four minutes to a live panel of investors and expert judges in the hopes of winning their support. Audience members, or the crowd, have three minutes to ask questions, hear input from actual investors and gain a better understanding of what types of things investors are looking for.

The audience helps the live panel choose the winner by investing ‘FUN’ money in the venture of their choice. One grand-prize winner is selected from each event and receives a prize package consisting of cash and services from various sponsors. CrowdPitch events are held regularly and are open to all entrepreneurs free of charge.

SpeedPitch events are for investors and are similar to speed dating where entrepreneurs go from table to table and pitch to investors. The events give entrepreneurs the opportunity to get quick face time and feedback from investors. If an investor is interested in meeting with or learning more they can schedule a separate meeting. SpeedPitch events are closed to the general public.

Grow Utah Ventures, is a privately funded not-for-profit organization dedicated to stimulate, unlock and develop the entrepreneurial talent and early stage business opportunities for value creation across Utah.

In 2012, Grow Utah Ventures will roll out an aggressive schedule for these events and other exclusive initiatives. For more information about Grow Utah Ventures and the CrowdPitch, SpeedPitch, Angel Investor of the Year Banquet including Startup of the Year and Mentor of the Year awards, visit www.growutahventures.com.

-Inventory Management Leader Sends Entrepreneurial Message for Businesses

Throughout Utah; U.S.-

Fishbowl® (www.fishbowlinventory.com) is joining with Utah-based Zions Bank to send the state and the nation a critical message: We can survive the recession, and we can work together to help our businesses rise higher and better than ever before. Today Fishbowl CEO David K. Williams and his company are underscoring their message with Zions Bank as they present Zions President A. Scott Anderson and Relationship Manager Brad Adamson with a ceremonial $1M check.

The money represents pre-payment in full of the $1M loan Zions extended to Fishbowl as a critical piece of Fishbowl’s buyback from its prior majority investor to become 100% employee owned on May 20 of this year.

Without the loan, Fishbowl could have been sold or possibly broken in pieces. Instead, the company achieved record growth in 2011, and won multiple awards (including Utah’s Best Kept Entrepreneurial Secret on Dec. 9). Fishbowl launched key partnerships with Utah Valley University, eFileCabinet, Voonami and other Utah and national partners by developing Fishbowl Partner Nation. The company also created CAM (Courage Above Mountains) an organization giving support underserved individuals. CAM recently gifted more than 55 refurbished computers, 120 jump drives, 4 video cameras and a significant amount of warm clothing to the Navajo Nation to be used in offering computer training programs through their communities.

“Our message is that we can transcend today’s economic challenges when we all work together as trusted friends and partners to honor the principles our forefathers brought to this great land,” Fishbowl President Mary Michelle Scott said.

“One of the timeless principles our forefathers taught was financial responsibility—to not misuse or overuse debt,” said CEO David Williams. “We want to represent that message and to send it again, right now, to our Utah neighbors –and to our entire nation – that we must use debt prudently to remain strong. We want to underscore that message with our great working partner, Zions Bank, who believed in Fishbowl and extended us the loan we critically needed to become employee owned. In return, we are repaying the loan in full, 84 months early, on the date our first full principal payment has come due.”

Scott Anderson said, “As Utah’s oldest financial institution, Zions Bank is pleased to take a leading role in business lending for our region. We join with Fishbowl in adding our voice to the high priority of prudent use of business debt, and we are proud to have played this critical role in Fishbowl’s current success.”

Anderson noted that in addition to traditional banking services such as the commercial loan Zions completed with Fishbowl, Zions has ranked as No. 1 lender of U.S. Small Business Administration 7(a) loans in Utah for the past 18 consecutive years.

Fishbowl executives noted that for a software company, finding collateral is difficult, and Fishbowl’s loan came at a time other banks were not providing software company loans. However, Zions Relationship Manager Brad Adamson, recognizing the value Fishbowl holds, worked to find the avenue to make the $1M loan possible. CEO David Williams stepped forward to gladly provide everything he owned as collateral.
