In between our two coasts stands the Wasatch Mountains with its own high-tech corridor that is now referred to as the 'Silicon Slopes'.

Provo, UT – August 1, 2008—Silicon Valley has been home to highly successful high tech firms such as Sun, Oracle, Yahoo, Google and a hotbed for hundreds of startup tech companies. The Silicon Forrest of the Northwest is home to Microsoft, Amazon and others. New York is famous for its Silicon Alley. In between these two coasts stands the Wasatch Mountains with its own high-tech corridor that is now referred to as the Silicon Slopes.

For more information on the ‘Destination: Silicon Slopes’ luncheon, visit http://www.siliconslopes.com/2008_annual_luncheon_invitation.html.

So what would make Silicon Slopes a stand out in that crowd? Does the growing technology corridor along the Wasatch front qualify Utah to claim the title of Silicon Slopes?

Josh James, CEO of Omniture, is so confident of a positive response to that question that he’s invested serious time, thought, and capital into the launch of www.siliconslopes.com; a Web site that connects all things tech in the intermountain area. A detailed poster, advertised on the site, displays the field of technology and life sciences companies that amply justify the branding of Utah as Silicon Slopes.

Among the front runners in Utah’s technology corridor, are Omniture, Novell, IM Flash, Symantec, and Move Networks. Other prominent firms that have chosen to establish offices in Utah include Oracle, Ebay, IBM, Microsoft, and Computer Associates.

Move Networks has been labeled as TV 2.0. CBS, Fox, and many others agree with that title as they rely on Move Networks to handle their on-demand video streaming services. Doug Parrish and John Edwards will share their story of Move Network’s continuing climb to the top during an upcoming luncheon on August 14 at Thanksgiving Point.

During that same event, Brett Error, CTO of Omniture, will discuss the reasons behind Omniture’s decision to give back to Utah’s technology communities through the recent launch of www.siliconslopes.com.

For more information on the ‘Destination: Silicon Slopes’ luncheon, visit http://www.siliconslopes.com/2008_annual_luncheon_invitation.html. This annual joint luncheon is hosted by: the Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum; Utah Technology Council, the Mountain West Capital Network, and the Wayne Brown Institute.

Despite a nationwide decline in the residential housing market, AxisPointe gains momentum and continues to sell HomeWorx franchises nationwide.

SALT LAKE CITY—July 14, 2008 — AxisPointe, Inc., the leader in outsourced post-construction customer service and parent company of HomeWorx Franchising, LLC announced today that HomeWorx franchises have been sold in eleven cities in four states over the past four months, including; Colorado (Denver, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs), North Carolina (Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh), South Carolina (Greenville) and Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio).

“The current climate in the building industry creates an ideal business opportunity for people to utilize their skills and knowledge to grow their own franchise,” said Frank Tate, AxisPointe VP, Franchise Division. “Working with a proven company such as AxisPointe provides peace of mind in our unstable economy and has been an attractive selling point to many of our new franchisees.”

HomeWorx franchises provide an opportunity to take advantage of the outsourcing trend within the building industry. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, and proven processes, franchisees fill a need in the market by alleviating burdens for builders through the entire post-construction phase. With as little as a cell phone and laptop, individuals can start their own franchise and have it up and running in as little as a few weeks. In addition to the benefits to franchisees, HomeWorx offers builders the ability to:

Scale up or down depending on the market without having to hire, fire or train employees,

Focus on their core business and not have to hassle with the day to day post-construction service needs,

Ensure consistent, world-class services to homebuyers, and,

Outsource the entire post-construction warranty process to a trusted, experienced vendor

“I am impressed with the high-caliber of franchisees we have brought on board with HomeWorx,” said Andrew K. Smith, AxisPointe CEO. “Their experience and drive to succeed not only helps our business succeed, it brings them personal and financial growth as well. The franchising model is a win-win for everyone.”

With the recent decrease in residential construction, homebuilders and multi-family developers are outsourcing their post-construction customer service and warranty resolution services to save overall operating costs. With substantial savings in overall post-closing warranty costs, the HomeWorx Suite of products and services are a perfect solution for builders to reduce current operating costs and provide world-class service to homebuyers.

“We look forward to having a HomeWorx office in each major metropolitan city throughout the United States to service this ongoing trend of outsourced post-construction customer and warranty service by 2010,” said Smith. “We are committed to investing what it takes to reach this goal as quickly as possible to support the overwhelming demand we are getting nationwide for our end-to-end solutions.”

About AxisPointe

AxisPointe’s outsourced post-construction services eliminate the hassle, risk, and unnecessary cost during the builder warranty period. The company specializes in customized closing manuals, buyer orientation and walkthrough, punch list management, warranty callback processing, service ticketing, work order management, and other warranty-related items.

Many are surprised to hear that one of the fastest growing segments of Facebook users is business people over the age of 25. Many of them 'business executives'. If you are not a Facebook user, you may be missing an opportunity...

“Facebook,… isn’t that for kids?”

I get asked that all the time, and the remarkable answer is ‘No’. Many are surprised to hear that one of the fastest growing segments of Facebook users is business people over the age of 25. Many of them ‘business executives’. If you are not a Facebook user, you may be missing an opportunity…

Join the Utah Valley Business Group on Facebook

Facebook is set to become a defacto standard for business networking as the college crowd that made it famous move into the workforce. College students who were ‘raised’ on social networking are adapting to leverage their online social skills in the work environment to great effect.

Serious business has embraced Facebook as an effective tool in departmental communications as well as sales and marketing. IBM has conducted successful internal experiments with Facebook. Among the earliest corporate adopters of Facebook are some surprisingly big names including Gap, Intel, Pepsi, Microsoft and Apple.

This particular opportunity has caught the eye of local businesses who are engaged in building applications that enable Facebook users to take advantage of social skills, and a wide audience. In fact, a Facebook group called ‘Utah CEOs With A Facebook Strategy‘, a local endeavor headed by Paul Allen, has nearly 500 members, many of which are Utah Valley businesses. You can find them on Facebook. An impressive number of successful Facebook applications were started right here in Utah Valley.

Of particular note, Paul Allen’s ‘Were Related‘ application boasts over 141,000 active daily users. Linking Universe, another Utah Valley product, is recognized as the first full featured business application for the Facebook platform.

Are You On Facebook? You may be missing opportunities…

True Story: I know a highly respected Utah Valley senior executive who recently created a Facebook account. We chuckled about what his younger daughter might think to see ‘dad’ in an online social environment.

A week or two later when we had a chance to catch up, he reported his amazement at the number of ‘old friends’ he had become reaquainted with. You won’t travel far in the high tech industry without running into Facebook. Not only that, but he had also been introduced to a couple new prospects that his company is now meeting with for business.

He is an instant believer, but he isn’t the only one who has had this experience: Facebook is growing at an accelerating rate, with nearly 80 million active users worldwide and over 100,000 new members every day.

Talk about a market. Here are some additional stats that every Utah Valley business should consider…

Facebook is the sixth most trafficked website in the world according to ComScore. Facebook is the second most popular social media site, with MySpace running first. There are over 55,000 regional, business-related, college and high school networks within Facebook. This includes our own Utah Valley Business Group.

More than half of Facebook users are outside of college. That means nearly half will be graduating into the workforce in the next four years or so. Facebook maintains a healthy 85 percent market share of all 4-year universities in the Unites States. That’s a lot of connected people.

Connecting with Facebook is easy, fun, and painless. Even better, and perhaps more remarkable, is that it is free. Free connections, free information, free applications. Free opportunities for business.

How to you get started? Easy. Go to facebook.com and start an account. Once you have created an account, which only takes a couple of minutes, your next step is to connect with someone. I guarantee you know someone in Facebook, and all it takes is one. Once you connect to someone, you will start to feel the magic of Facebook as old friends find you, and new friends meet you. Before you know it, you will be connecting with people all over Utah Valley, and all over the world. Pay attention; those are opportunities out there.

Once you get in, join our Utah Valley Business Group. You will find a growing number of friends of similar interests among our group, and perhaps a familiar friend or two. Better yet, our group is dedicated to seeking ways to find business opportunities among our Facebook experience.

Join in and participate! We look forward to seeing you.

In a move that expands the boundaries of E-mail Independence, Cemaphore Systems today announced availability of the Beta2 release of MailShadow for Google Apps.

Cemaphore Systems Launches Public Beta2 Offering - Synchronizes Microsoft(R) Exchange and Outlook(R) with Gmail in the Cloud, without Infrastructure

Provo, Utah — Jul 15, 2008 — In a move that expands the boundaries of E-mail Independence, Cemaphore Systems today announced availability of the Beta2 release of MailShadow(R) for Google Apps(TM) (MailShadowG), allowing organizations to move some or potentially all of their e-mail continuity and disaster recovery into the cloud, with zero infrastructure.

To date, more than 3,000 organizations from 98 countries around the world have signed up for the Beta program. The sign ups range from small to large organizations, including Global 500 companies that are evaluating MailShadowG. Beta2 participants can test MailShadowG for free with the option to purchase a license for $29.95 per user per year during Beta2. When the product is released for general availability the list price will be $49.95.

One reason cited by the Beta testers for their interest is the value delivered by MailShadowG. Cemaphore has set a new benchmark for delivering cost-effective, efficient and reliable Microsoft Exchange continuity.

Following today’s Beta2 release, general availability is expected in Q3 2008. While Cemaphore limited the participation and distribution of Beta1, the Beta2 release is open to all who submit an application.

MailShadowG is a Microsoft Outlook add-in that provides real-time synchronization of email, calendars and contacts between Outlook, Exchange and Gmail(TM), contacts and Google Calendar(TM). MailShadowG provides consumers, small businesses and enterprises with “Continuity in the Cloud”:

Bi-directional, real-time synchronization between Exchange and Google: MailShadow provides bi-directional, real-time synchronization of the key messaging data types: E-mail, Calendar and Contacts.

MailShadowG provides e-mail continuity when Exchange is unavailable: Users can send and receive e-mail from Outlook through Gmail when their Exchange service is unavailable.

MailShadowG provides disconnected access to Gmail, contacts and Google Calendar: MailShadowG caches Google message content in Outlook for offline operations.

Portability of messaging content: MailShadowG enables safe, sound migration from Exchange to Google or Google to Exchange.

Rapid deployment for individuals and IT departments: MailShadowG is a single user Outlook Add-in that installs in 5 minutes with message content protection commencing immediately.

“Cloud computing is the next step in terms of enabling business continuity for both the enterprise and the mobile professional,” said Philippe Winthrop, Research Director for Strategy Analytics ( www.strategyanalytics.com). “Solutions, such as MailShadowG, which offer the ability to access your e-mail, calendar and contacts (some of the most important data a professional uses) from any system, including a mobile device, can significantly improve the flexibility and ultimate productivity of a mobile worker.”

“With more than six years’ experience in the e-mail continuity and disaster recovery business, we are extremely proud to be leading the charge in moving the industry to a Software as a Service (SaaS) model that will allow SMBs, consumers, and enterprises of all sizes to provide e-mail continuity in the cloud to their users,” said Tyrone Pike, Cemaphore President and CEO. “This is a critical milestone, and we intend to continue to develop additional cloud-based messaging services.”

Following today’s launch of MailShadowG, Cemaphore has also reiterated its commitment to develop and release messaging continuity solutions for other major e-mail service providers.

The event, held at Noah’s in Lindon, received 109 RSVPs and hosted 210 individuals for a buffet lunch and award ceremony. Event coordinators were both pleasantly surprised and a little anxious over the standing room-only attendance, even though food ran a little low near the end of the line.

The event was sponsored by InnoVentures Capital Partners, Silicon Slopes and Omniture. Thanks to all for a nicely-done event. The food was good, and the opportunities to network with local entrepreneurs was outstanding. I recognized some of the top brass from many of our local leading companies, making the event a great way to rub shoulders with the who’s who of Utah Valley.

The awards ceremony was MC’d by Steve Grizzle, who opened with comments regarding the humble beginnings of many of the winning companies. “Many of these companies failed to meet payroll at least once along the way to their success’ he said. I found this a very inspiring opening that was only fortified when the final top five each had an opportunity to speak for a moment. Each provided an encouraging story of their entrepreneurial struggle to achieve success.

Among the five, I gleaned the following few thoughts:

Number four winner Seastone Consumer Packaging related an inspirational story recalling an initial experience when a large client requested a bid for a large order with demands that the price be kept to one cent per piece and a deadline of one day. The team worked all night and could only find the item for three cents. ‘I’m no mathematician”, he said, “but I knew we would loose money if we bought for three and sold for one.” Raising laughter from the audience, he said “We took the job anyway.” At great risk, the team was able to research their resources and found the item for less than half a penny. The job turned a million dollar profit and launched the company toward success. ‘Taking risk’ was cited as a component of their success.

Skullcandy, who took the number three award, recalled their struggle through hard times and indicated that perseverance was key to their rise as the fastest growing consumer electronics company in the world. “The worst was when the sherrif showed up to deliver an eviction notice; we paid the factory two times in a row, but hadn’t paid the rent for three times in a row.” Every entrprenuer in the room seemed to nod in understanding.

Control4, who grabbed second place, shared their commitment to the Utah Valley community and making hard decisions to maintain their support. “Our investors said that if we wouldn’t move to the bay area that we couldn’t have their money. We told them that if we had to move, we didn’t need their money.” It looks like their integrety paid off.

Finally, I had a chance to catch up with David Elkington of Inside Sales, who were awarded number eleven. We laughed as he recalled that things have not always been rosey; ‘My neighbors thought I had a great job” he said, “they had no idea there were times when we were barely hanging on.”

I came to realize that there has been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears poured into these successful companies. They are all truly inspiring for new companies facing similar trials and tribulations. It’s nice to learn that the big boys have experienced what I am going through, and it gives me hope that it can be worth the price.

Shauna Theobold, UVEF 2008 Chair, summed it up nicely saying “These Top 25 winners have demonstrated excellence in their fields and provide the brightest of prospects for the future growth of Utah business, This group represents the spirit of entrepreneurship and sets the mark by which others will be measured.”

UVEF’s Top 25 Under Five Awards is in it’s ninth year, having recognized more than 175 entrepreneurs and companies.

SISEL maintains their commitment to manufacturing products using only the purest, safest and most
effective ingredients from the highest quality sources in the world.

Salem, Utah—July 8, 2008—SISEL International LLC (“Sizzle”) today announced the SISEL Safe Seal of Approval for all products manufactured under the SISEL name. SISEL Safe’s promise is to use only the purest, safest and most effective ingredients and avoid the use of harmful or unsafe packaging materials.

“What makes SISEL’s products truly special is not only what’s in the products, but what’s not,” said Tom Mower, Jr., SISEL CEO. “SISEL’s Research & Development team is determined to find new solutions to old problems by seeking out only high quality ingredients which promote ecological balance and avoiding pesticides and synthetic contaminants.”

Over twenty years ago, the Mower family felt compelled to enter the nutraceutical industry because of the potential health consequences of repeated exposure to harmful chemicals commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products. They knew they could create effective, powerful products without relying on the inexpensive, questionable ingredients which had become the standard. SISEL’s products are manufactured in a highly-controlled production environment to ensure the highest quality standards. Finished products are never tested on animals, are designed to be biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

“When you see the “SISEL SAFE” logo, you can be confident that the products you purchased have gone through the highest level of scientific scrutiny and know with certainty what you are getting,” said Mower. “We are personally committed to the overall wellbeing of our customers and strive to protect them from all forms of unnecessary contaminants.”

SISEL seeks to avoid the use of:

Propylene Glycol

Nitrosomines

Phthalates

Sodium

Lauryl Sulphate

Glycerin

Mineral oil and many other potentially harmful ingredients

SISEL International
SISEL International is the world’s most exciting new network marketing company with a mission that is changing people’s lives. Privately held and founded by industry icon Tom Mower Sr. and carried forward with Tom Jr. and Darick Mower, SISEL stands for Science, Innovation, Success, Energy and Longevity. Through the Mower’s own world-class manufacturing facility, SISEL is able to deliver the highest-quality products to distributors and customers at the lowest possible price. The current product line consists of liquid nutritionals, nutritional supplements, personal care, skin care and home care products.

SISEL’s compensation plan is also revolutionary, delivering an unprecedented actual payout in addition to a unique Lifestyle bonus plan.
