From Wall St. Executives to Entrepreneurs: David and Susan Odell to Headline Feb. 28 SLC Meetup Event

-U of U Technology Commercialization Office to Host February Monthly Event at Fort Douglas Officers’ Club-

The transition from executive to entrepreneur is not easy, but this month’s SLC Entrepreneur Circle meetup event on February 28th will offer inside insight from two prestigious executives who’ve handled it well. The fastest growing business Meetup in the U.S. will feature Susan and David Odell, former senior managers at KPMG and Barclay Capital, who left Wall Street to prepare for and ultimately now pursue their entrepreneurial dream.

They will share their experience and insight with Utah entrepreneurs on Tuesday at this month’s Meetup event. The University of Utah’s Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) will host the event at the U’s Fort Douglas Officers’ Club, 150 S. Fort Douglas Boulevard, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

A graduate of the Cordon Blue academy in Paris, Susan Odell and her husband David Odell now run an online food business from Park City, Utah. They will share the aspects of moving from executive roles to an entrepreneurial business that business schools don’t address. Open networking at the event will begin at 5:30; Susan and David Odell will present at 6:30 p.m.

“As the fastest growing meetup for business in the United States, this high powered networking and education group has attracted more than 250 new members in 2012 and will have 1000 entrepreneurs and business owners in the group by April 2012,” noted the founder, Dr. Richard Swart.

Due to the high growth of the program, attendees must register in advance for the event, although attendance is free.  For more information, go to http://www.bit.ly/FebMeetup.

The SLC Entrepreneur Circle is a free resource for entrepreneurs primarily within the Salt Lake area, but is also attracting members from Logan to Utah County. The group was founded in early 2011 by Swart, an entrepreneur and former business professor at USU.

The group meets monthly to network and to get timely information from expert speakers to motivate, educate and inspire local entrepreneurs. Speakers share their expertise freely, but are not allowed to sell or promote products or programs at the events.

In addition to his role in the continued advancement of the SLC Entrepreneur Circle, Swart serves as Director of Strategic Programs for Grow America, a new organization from Alan E. Hall that is launching initiatives to build and grow the US economy through entrepreneurship. Swart works directly with the DooBizz business insight center (www.doobizz.com) to prepare and support budding entrepreneurs and new companies with the training and resources to make them successful in the creation of a vast number of new companies and jobs.
