Online Education Degrees in Business
On the subject of ‘education’, the following information was brought to my attention about the increasing popularity and acceptance of online degrees in the business community. I thought it would be interesting to post…
The statistics speak for themselves: online education is quickly becoming more mainstream, with more individuals and businesses viewing it as a viable alternative to a degree from a physical university. But what are the actual numbers and how will it affect the workforce in the near future?
Many for-profit schools get all or most of their funding from the government (89% or more), and recently the government did an investigation to determine which online universities might have fraudulent practices. The results of this investigation showed that many for-profit universities encouraged students to lie in order to receive more money from the government, but the investigation did not delve into the quality of degrees offered or career opportunities available with an online education.
With 1.8 million students enrolling in for-profit colleges over the past few years, the popularity of online degrees has skyrocketed. And 86% of employers are willing to hire applicants who have online degrees, according to an online degrees survey.
A main factor in the acceptableness of an online education lies in the accreditation of the online school. Employers and students alike put more trust in accredited online universities, which is different depending on the state and curriculum of the university. The number of students acquiring an online education is rapidly rising, with predictions for even higher numbers in the future. However, even with this rise, a few individuals believe online education cannot equal the quality and value found at a brick and mortar school.
Whether you hold with the belief that online education is the way of the future or you believe it is overrated, there is no doubt that it has captured the attention of individuals, government organizations and businesses.
