Utah Valley: Silicon Slopes

Provo, UT – August 1, 2008—Silicon Valley has been home to highly successful high tech firms such as Sun, Oracle, Yahoo, Google and a hotbed for hundreds of startup tech companies. The Silicon Forrest of the Northwest is home to Microsoft, Amazon and others. New York is famous for its Silicon Alley. In between these two coasts stands the Wasatch Mountains with its own high-tech corridor that is now referred to as the Silicon Slopes.

So what would make Silicon Slopes a stand out in that crowd?  Does the growing technology corridor along the Wasatch front qualify Utah to claim the title of Silicon Slopes?

Josh James, CEO of Omniture, is so confident of a positive response to that question that he’s invested serious time, thought, and capital into the launch of www.siliconslopes.com; a Web site that connects all things tech in the intermountain area. A detailed poster, advertised on the site, displays the field of technology and life sciences companies that amply justify the branding of Utah as Silicon Slopes.

Among the front runners in Utah’s technology corridor, are Omniture, Novell, IM Flash, Symantec, and Move Networks. Other prominent firms that have chosen to establish offices in Utah include Oracle, Ebay, IBM, Microsoft, and Computer Associates.

Move Networks has been labeled as TV 2.0.  CBS, Fox, and many others agree with that title as they rely on Move Networks to handle their on-demand video streaming services.  Doug Parrish and John Edwards will share their story of Move Network’s continuing climb to the top during an upcoming luncheon on August 14 at Thanksgiving Point.

During that same event, Brett Error, CTO of Omniture, will discuss the reasons behind Omniture’s decision to give back to Utah’s technology communities through the recent launch of www.siliconslopes.com.
