Utah Valley Magazine
About six years ago I had lunch with Matt Bennett, who at the time was the aspiring proprietor of a growing newsletter that he was attempting to turn into a premium magazine. I too was starting a publication and could only hope to be as successful as Matt and his family business have become.
Utah Valley Magazine was out of the gates as a top-shelf magazine and refuses to look back while staying true to the values of the valley it represents. It is truly an impressive magazine. They have done a terrific job.
In six years Utah Valley Magazine has become a hallmark of Utah Valley culture. In addition to Utah Valley Magazine, the Bennetts have successfully grown a collection of publications and ventures including Utah Valley Business Q, Utah Valley Bride, and the Utah Valley Parade of Homes magazines.
I have recently become acquainted with Allison Birch, who is an account representative at Bennett Communications. I initially met her at Business Network International, but later had the good fortune to meet with her at the Bennett offices in North Orem. Allison represents each of the four magazines mentioned in this post as well as a host of offshoot services including the Big Business and Technology Expo, a full-fledged business trade event held at Utah Valley State College each year.
Almost as impressive as the quality of the publications are the services and options Bennett offers to businesses wanting to reach their widespread readership. Having sat with Allison for only a few minutes I was well acquainted with the upcoming opportunities to spread the word about my company. I was so impressed I signed up to be on a panel that will discuss my area of expertise, a little advertising in the appropriate issue, and a booth at the Big Business and Technology Expo. Not bad, Allison; I didn’t even have the budget.
On the plus side, my accountant forced me to review the value proposition to determine whether the money would be well spent. We easily concluded that the cost of the opportunity would pay for itself if only a fraction of the potential is realized. I’ll keep you posted.
